365 in Seattle – Ballard Locks

365 Things to do in Seattle WA – Day 7 Ballard Locks

A wonderful thing to do is visit the Ballard Locks (official name is the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks). The locks were originally constructed so that Coal and Timber could easily be transported. The locks run between Lake Union and the Puget Sound. The first ship passed through the Locks on August 3, 1916 but officially opened on July 4, 1917. For visiting information you can call 206.783.7059.
